Experienced Finance Director with over 20 years’ experience supporting growth, change, and stability across SME, international, and private equity-backed businesses.
Helen works closely with founders, boards, and leadership teams to bring clarity to complex situations, strengthen financial foundations, and support confident decision-making. She is known for her calm, thoughtful approach and for combining strong technical understanding with a practical, people-focused mindset.
Rather than imposing solutions, Helen partners with leaders to understand their challenges, take ownership of problems, and put in place ways of working that genuinely support the business over the long term.
Helen began her career in audit practice, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and gaining broad experience across a range of small and medium-sized organisations. This early grounding gave her a strong technical foundation, a clear understanding of governance and audit requirements, and insight into how businesses operate day to day.
After qualifying, Helen moved into industry, taking on senior finance roles within growing and internationally owned businesses. She was responsible for end-to-end financial control, reporting, compliance, and working closely with senior leaders in the UK and overseas. During this time, she developed a strong reputation for delivering accurate, timely reporting and for communicating financial performance clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Over the course of her career, Helen progressed into senior leadership roles where her responsibilities extended well beyond finance. She has supported international expansion, strengthened governance and reporting, and worked alongside CEOs and leadership teams to develop more scalable, resilient operating models.
A significant part of Helen’s experience has involved supporting businesses through periods of growth, transition, and preparation for future sale. She has helped leadership teams improve planning and forecasting, increase performance visibility, and ensure the business is well prepared for external scrutiny and due diligence.
Throughout her career, Helen has been valued for her willingness to take ownership, her ability to think problems through carefully, and her calm, measured approach to complex challenges.
Helen brings broad, hands-on experience that is particularly well suited to SMEs and leadership teams who want senior financial support that is both practical and proportionate.
Her experience includes:
Supporting SME leaders
Working closely with founders and senior teams to help them understand their numbers, think through challenges, and make informed decisions without adding unnecessary complexity.
Financial control and reporting
Putting in place forecasting, reporting, and governance processes that improve visibility and accountability, and that support day-to-day management as well as longer-term planning.
International and structural complexity
Supporting overseas operations and group structures, including intercompany arrangements and cross-border reporting, in a pragmatic and manageable way.
Growth, change, and transition
Helping businesses navigate periods of growth, organisational change, and post-acquisition environments, bringing stability and focus when things feel uncertain.
People-focused leadership
Acting as a trusted sounding board for non-finance leaders, mentoring teams, and encouraging ownership and confidence across the business.
Initial situation
A growing professional services business needed greater structure and clearer financial insight to support its next phase of growth, while also laying the foundations for a potential future sale.
Action and result
Helen worked alongside the leadership team to improve planning and reporting, increase visibility across performance and delivery, and support senior leaders in taking ownership of outcomes. Over time, the business developed stronger foundations, clearer accountability, and a more robust operating model, ultimately supporting a successful sale.
Outside of work, Helen enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking, painting, and travelling to Cornwall. She values balance, curiosity, and thoughtful problem-solving, both professionally and personally.
